Chats on The Farmhouse Porch

on February 12, 2013

It’s a gloomy day here in my neck of the woods. That is not good when it is a day that was hard to wake up in the first place. It was a weird night last night. My husband was on shift at the firehouse last night so I was home alone. Most of the time that is not an issue for me because I have been doing it for a long time. Every once in a while though it is one of those nights… last night was one of them. At about 1:15 I woke up and I kept thinking I heard something downstairs. Ok, that happens sometimes and I have to remind myself that everything is locked tight, and most times it is just the wind, and then I go back to sleep. Well last night I could not do it so, I figured I better go downstairs. Then I could see for myself it was nothing and go back to sleep. Well it was my dog on the back porch barking. (My back porch is heated and enclosed. She has her own furniture out there. Usually, she is quite cozy and asleep.) I went and looked at her and she was barking and pacing. Of course I didn’t like that. I opened the door to let her in with me and she kept looking at the back door and barking. She did come in. She stopped barking but she kept pacing all around the house and sniffing. Now she never ever goes out in the middle of the night. She didn’t bolt to the door and jump like she does when she has to go out herself but she just did not want to settle. I ended up sleeping downstairs on the couch with her. It helped her to settle and it helped me not to worry anymore about what was outside. The problem was it was about 2 before I could get her to settle. Then I kept waking up to look at the clock every 30 minutes because I was worried about not being able to hear the alarm! Yuck. I was equal parts glad and sad when it was 6 am and I had to get up! I do feel sleepy today. I guess at least that means I will get a good nights sleep tonight!

Are you doing anything special for Valentine’s Day?

imagesCAVY2S5Q

We are having a Valentines Day lunch at my work. Everyone has signed up to bring in something. There is always lots of delicious homemade food.

I am not sure what my husband and I will do. I will make him a yummy special dessert for sure no matter what we decide.

When you attend something that isn’t totally casual, are you likely to wear dress pants or a dress?

Dress pants. I only where a dress if I feel like the occasion dictates I must wear a dress. This is mostly due to my personal body issues. When I was thinner I was not as opposed to wearing dresses but in reality even then I did not dress up that often. It is not one of my favorite things to dress up anyway. I am very much of a casual person.

Do you use a regular toothbrush or one of the battery run kind?

I use a Phillips Sonicare toothbrush recommended by my dentist. It helped me a lot with both tooth sensitivity and tartar control. I highly recommend it.

Did you have valentines in school when you were a child?

imagesCASK3JY4

Yes! I loved Valentines Day when I was in elementary school. We always made mail boxes out of shoe boxes, lots of handmade cards, and always had cupcakes brought in by a room mother. I remember using lots of red construction paper, white paper doilies, silver glitter, and sometimes aluminum foil. I really liked doing it and remember coming home with many cards to show my parents. They were always handmade and my parents made a fuss over them. In preschool and kindergarten my granddaughter had to make one of these boxes to bring in each year. The first one I was able to help her make. We had so much fun! Unfortunately, now that she is in first grade they don’t do that anymore. The valentines they exchange in her school are all store-bought. Some are cute but most of them are all the same and kind of boring.

If you could learn a new craft tomorrow, what would it be?

Knitting for sure. I have actually signed up to take a knitting workshop at the end of the month. I don’t know if I will like it but it has always intrigued me so I am excited to give it a shot.

Well Last but not least here is a special something for Wendell…

I hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight to make up for last night. I got tired just reading about all the ups and downs you had!

Thanks Anne! That probably was too long of a post about my bad night but it felt better to write it out if that makes any sense. I reveived your Etsy message and I am looking forward to the mail 10 days from now. 🙂

Oh, I hope you get a better night’s sleep tonight! I hate waking up & then worrying 😦
The knitting workshop sounds great – something I should do for sure! Kirsten x

Thanks Kirsten I hope so too. If you have a knitting workshop on offer near you you should sign up! I think you would pretty much be great at whatever you make your mind up to accomplish.

Wendell sends a special than you for his Valentine! I hate nights like you had. I’d have been worried that there was something outside too. I hope you like your knitting workshop. I knit, but I could be a bit better. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Wendell is most welcome. 🙂 My husband thinks it was an animal like a skunk or a raccoon out there that was driving her buggy. It didn’t look like anything was amiss today anywhere so maybe he is correct. I hope so. I also hope it does not come back when he works next time, lol. I am excited about the workshop so we shall see how it goes.

I know I hate when my dogs bark and hubby isn’t home. Makes me kinda nervous, thankfully it seldom happens. Having special lunches at work is one thing I do miss since I retired. All the special dishes my coworkers would bring were always yummy. I love your gifts for Wendell, I know he will love them!! Happy Valentine’s Day!

Oh my, I could have written the same answers on many of my responses… well, except for the knitting (however, I don’t know how to knit socks so they will both end up the same… so I could do with some lessons for that!) I love your valentine for Wendell – how cute!
It was nice to chat with you on Patrice’s porch today!

  6. The Sonicare is what my kids use. Going to get myself one of those.

Have fun with the knitting 🙂
